The odds on favourite for this annual World title, Edward Gal and the astonishing Moorlands Totilas, headed a Dutch 1-2-3 in front of an ecstatic home crowd at ‘S-Hertogenbosch with a brilliant score of 89.8%. Adelinde Cornelissen on Jerich Parzival took second, with Imke Schellekens-Bartels and Hunter Douglas Sunrise completing the ‘orange wash’ in third. All the top tests are shown in full as usual. The Alltech FEI European Dressage Championships 2009 were held in Windsor, UK. This championships saw more maximum 10 marks given by the judges than ever before. There was a feverish type hype around Edward Gal's "Wonder Horse", Moorlands Totilas and the 9 year old did not let anyone down. He scored 32 maximum 10 marks in the Special and still lost to Adelinde Cornelissen riding Parzival but then he broke a record in the Kur with a score of 90.75%.

In the team competition, The Netherlands were always going to be too strong for the rest but GB (the host nation) were in ecstacy after securing team Silver ahead of the Germans. Top rider, Laura Bechtolsheimer and Mistral Hojris grabbed a dramatic Bronze in the Special.

The Queens of dressage, Anky Van Grunsven (NED) and Isabell Werth (GER), were expected to duel for the top honours but after Steffen Peters (USA) won the Grand Prix Qualifier on Ravel, they know they had a fight on their hands. The home crowd willed Peters on and he did not disappoint them, becoming only the second man to win the World Cup Final since it began in 1986. Once again the two great dressage riders of the world battled it out for Gold in Hong Kong, at the 2008 Olympics. After Isabell Werth (GER) and Satchmo had posted the best score in the Grand Prix, it was not surprising that she would also come out top in the Grand Prix Special but Anky Van Grunsven (NED) is not the reigning Olympic, World Cup and European Champion for nothing. After Satchmo made an unexpected mistake in the special, the margin was never enough to hold the "Queen of the Kur", Anky Van Grunsven, in the final discipline as she showed all of her magic with Salinero to retain her Olympic title in style. All the top tests are shown in full with viewers being given the option of watching the Kur tests without commentary.

Germany lost their invincibility to the Netherlands in the 2007 FEI European Championships, so all eyes were on these two teams for the Gold and Silver with the USA, Denmark, Sweden and Great Britain battling for Bronze at the 2008 Olympics in Hong Kong. With only 3 riders allowed in each team, this gave added drama to the competition as no scores could be discarded.
