The Alltech FEI European Dressage Championships 2009 were held in Windsor, UK. This championships saw more maximum 10 marks given by the judges than ever before. There was a feverish type hype around Edward Gal's "Wonder Horse", Moorlands Totilas and the 9 year old did not let anyone down. He scored 32 maximum 10 marks in the Special and still lost to Adelinde Cornelissen riding Parzival but then he broke a record in the Kur with a score of 90.75%.

In the team competition, The Netherlands were always going to be too strong for the rest but GB (the host nation) were in ecstacy after securing team Silver ahead of the Germans. Top rider, Laura Bechtolsheimer and Mistral Hojris grabbed a dramatic Bronze in the Special.

81 combinations started the dressage phase on the Thursday representing 10 countries with a record 24 riders being first timers. Windy conditions on the first two days made the dressage test even more demanding with Belgium's Karin Donckers leading the way in a tightly packed leader board. The ground conditions were absolutely perfect and the cross country course rode well with 55 completing without jumping penalties, and 16 going inside the time. In the Show Jumping William fox-Pitt and Idalgo put the pressure on the top 3 with an immaculate clear and only Oliver Townend and Flint Curtis could resist his challenge to win their first Badminton title.

This was the first time event riders have had to ride their dressage tests to music and it was a great spectacle. The show jumping and cross country phases saw lots of thrills and spills, with many riders failing to complete the 3 phases but Oliver Townend and his imposing grey Flint Curtis stormed round the stadium in spectacular fashion to a convincing victory. The Alltech FEI European Jumping Championships 2009 were held in Windsor, UK and saw a dramatic competition. In the Nations Cup Team event, the leader board was constantly changing and the final results were so close with formidable new Swiss Chef D'Equipe Markus Fuchs. Germany just edged out the Netherlands for the Bronze medal.

In the individual competition, France's disappointment of failing to win a medal in the team was more than alleviated by Kevin Staut (FRA) on the 11 year old Selle Francais stallion, Kraque Boom who took the individual gold medal. Carsten-Otto Nagel (GER) riding Corradina took the Silver medal and Albert Zoer (NED) took the Bronze medal. Double DVD, total duration 104 mins.
